Religious and pilgrimage tourism will be developed in Vologda Oblast.

Representatives of the National office of tourism, sport and commercial marketing of the Vologda oblast in Russia and CIS-states took part in the 9th International Trade Fair for Travel & Tourism Intourmarket (ITM) in Moscow.

ITM is the main tourism event that is officially supported by the Russian Federal Agency for tourism and other federal and professional organizations contributing to the travel industry development in Russia.

Intourmarket (ITM) was initiated by the whole Russian tourism industry and strongly supported by the Russian Government, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Federal Agency for tourism and World Tourism Organization. This forum brings together hosted buyers and travel professionals from all Russian regions with Russian and international tourism key players.

The programme of the International Trade Fair for Travel & Tourism Intourmarket-2014 was intense. Participation in it gave the opportunities for entering the developing tourist market, establishing new business contacts and promotion of company's brand among Russian customers. Religious and pilgrimage tourism, one of the oldest forms of tourism (it is now known as faith based tourism) was in the highlight of the forum.

The head of the National office of tourism, sport and commercial marketing of the Vologda oblast in Russia and CIS-states briefed on perspectives of faith-based travel that can provide a steady flow of income to a local tourism economy. Religious travel is one of the fastest growing segments in travel today and the Vologda Oblast is a magnet for tourists owing to a number of monasteries, churches and monuments of architecture that are preserved in their original appearance. The number of people who travel for faith-based conventions and faith based activities become extraordinarily large. The focus of the pilgrimage tourism development should be placed not on pilgrimage sites but also religiously aware professionals. From airlines to hotels, those travel and tourism professionals must be sensitive to religious needs.
