Ice palace opens in Vologda.

A new, multifunctional 788-seat and 9,000-square-metre ice palace was opened on February 17.
The complex, with its stands for 788 seats, will include an artificial ice rink measuring 28 by 60 meters, changing rooms, trainers’ rooms, fitness facilities and other technical and utility areas.
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Yury Vorobyov, Deputy Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Alexei Morozov, Vologda Region Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov, president of the Ice Hockey Federation of Russia Vladislav Tretyak and President of the Russian Skating Union Nikolai Gulyaev were among the honoured visitors at the grand opening on Feb. 17.
The opening ceremony was held with the invitation of sports stars and Olympic champions.
Children and teens will be able to engage in hockey and figure skating, with the help of professional trainers. The rink will also be used for public ice skating.
Residents of Vologda will get a state-of-the-art multi-use sports and recreation facility for numerous hockey tournaments, figure skating competitions and non-ice activities accommodating up to three thousand spectators. Construction of an ice skating rink will give a new impetus to sports development, become an incentive for new victories and give birth to new Olympic champions.
Vologda Region Olympic Museum will open on the ground floor of the new ice palace. Among the exhibits there will be photographs and personal belongings of Olympic champions and many professional Vologda’s athletes with impressive athletic achievements who have inspired the masses. This is a joint project of the Vologda Region and the Russian Olympic Committee.
