Oleg Kuvshinnikov held a meeting of the Governor’s Council for Culture and Tourism.

The main objective of the Council is to arrange a wide public discussion of issues in the sphere of culture, and to develop the most effective approaches for its effective development.

The Council includes representatives of executive and legislative state power, local self-government bodies, heads and specialists of the leading state and municipal institutions, representatives of public organizations, scientific community, the Vologda Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and tourist companies of the region.

The agenda focused on the relevant areas of modern cultural policy and support for creative initiatives, the preservation, use and promotion of Vologda’s historical and cultural heritage, the future of humanities education, helping young people develop their creative potential, and improving the practice of grant support.

At a meeting of the Council for Culture and Art, RF President Vladimir Putin said: “To a large extent, culture built up Russia’s prestige and influence in the world, and objectively made it into a great power. We are mindful of this and should make efficient use of our humanitarian resources, increase international interest in our history, traditions, language and cultural values."

On the RF President’s instruction, the Presidential Administration is working out a new document - basic principles of federal policy and federal programmes in the cultural sphere.

According to Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov, the main directions of development of the sphere of culture in the Vologda Region today are the increase of efficiency of cultural institutions activity, additional funding, participation in competitions and grant support. “We should make full use of the intellectual potential of cultural institutions for successful development of cognitive and educational tourism”, noted Mr. Kuvshinnikov.
