Grammy-winners Los Texmaniacs to bring conjunto music to Vologda Oblast.
15.07.2013 11:07
Russian - American festival featuring traditional American music is to be held in Vologda Oblast on July 19 - 20, 2013.
The festival is arranged with an active backing of the US Consulate General in St.Petersburg and the Vologda Oblast Government. Bluegrass Music Festivals were held in the Vologda Oblast three times.
This time the American musicians will introduce a genre of music known as Conjunto music that was born out of south Texas at the end of the 19th Century. The event will take place on the territory of the Vologda Kremlin and the Manshion of the Galskiys in the city of Cherepovets.
The quartet, founded in 1997, are rooted in conjunto, the jalapeno-spiced polka music featuring the 12-string bajo sexto and the button accordion — a legacy of 19th-century German immigrants to the Lone Star State.
Max Baca, the leader of Los Texmaniacs, is a legend on the bajo sexto, a 12-string guitar-like instrument which customarily provides rhythm accompaniment for the button accordion, thus creating the core of the conjunto sound.
Baca has participated on 11 Grammy winning projects including the double-platinum CD for the Rolling Stones Voodoo Lounge (Virgin 96).
The free concerts will be held in Vologda and Cherepovets.
