Geography - note: Volgo-Baltic Waterway that is a unique joint of the basins of the Baltic Sea, the Caspian, the Azov Sea and the Black Sea.

Hydraulic works of the district: 6 sluices, 2 hydroelectric power stations, 23 dikes, spillways, berths

Main branches of industry. In the branch structure of industry, timber industry takes a dominating position. Main produce: sawn wood, round wood, cabinet work, faced board, coniferous concentrated product, prefabricated houses and consumer goods.

Leading enterprises: a furniture factory, a creamery, a fish-factory, metal-working businesses

Agroindustrial complex is represented by 14 enterprises and 63 farms. The most clearly expressed specializations of the district is grain-, potato-growing and cattle-breeding.

Pristine forests, the expanse of still undeveloped fields and green coppices, the networks of rivers and numerous lakes that are rich in fish and game make it possible to turn the district of Vytegra into a centre for tourism.

On December 7th Acting Governor Georgy Filimonov paid a working visit to Vytegra District.

On December 7th Mr. Filimonov came to the District of Vytegra, the region’s biggest district in terms of total area, as part of a series of visits throughout the Vologda Region examining economic and social development of regions.

This weekend, Vytegra, located in the north-western part of the Vologda Region will mark its 250-year birthday.

Vytegra is called a port of five seas. In the reign of Peter the Great the Mariinskaya water system passed through the territory of the district. Now it boasts the Volgo-Baltic Waterway with six sluices.

Oleg Kuvshinnikov paid a working visit to the District of Vytegra on October 10th.

Oleg Kuvshinnikov arrived in the District of Vytegra to inspect economic and social development of the district, the most important infrastructure facilities of the District and to get acquainted with the plans for their development.

On December 28th Vologda Oblast Governor paid a working visit to Vytegra District situated in the north-western part of the Vologda Oblast.

Within the framework of the visit to the District of Vytegra, Oleg Kuvshinnikov participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony of a new digital school that will be able to accommodate up to 150 children in the 11-to-17 age bracket next academic year.
