Road-building and Transport Department

Overview

The Ministry of Transport and Road-building is an executive body of the Vologda Oblast. It is the primary agency in the local government with the responsibility for shaping and administering policies and programs to protect and enhance the safety, adequacy and efficiency of the transportation system and services.

The Ministry of Transport and Road-building oversees the safety of civil aviation, sets standards and conducts inspections to promote the safety of railroad transportation, provides assistance to construct and improve roadways and bridges, sets and enforces performance standards for motor vehicles and ensures safe transportation on Vologda's waterways.

Within its competence, the Ministry of Transport and Road-building performs the following functions:

• planning and designing road network to provide optimized connectivity to rural and urban areas;
• construction, up gradation and maintenance of roads of regional significance;
• transport complex management;
• organization of auto, railway, internal water and air transport service.
