Theatre festival “Voices of History”

The festival "Voices of History", which emerged in 1991 as a review of the performances of professional theatres in the historical and architectural ensemble of the unique environment of the Vologda Kremlin has long been a hallmark of the Vologda Region, a favourite festival of all theatre-goers. In 2003 it received an international status. The theatre festival is held every two years in June.
The theatrical festival "Voices of History" is arranged jointly with the RF Ministry of Culture, the RF Union of theatrical workers, the Vologda Oblast Government and the administration of the city.
The festival merits great attention. The success of it has been conditioned by the professionalism of the participants and serious experience, and the ability to combine these qualities with Russian national characteristics. The performances are shown in the open air, in the historical setting of the Vologda Kremlin, which is a point of interest itself. Holding such a festival near the Kremlin is hardly a matter of chance.
All the professional theatres of Vologda - the Vologda Regional Drama Theatre, Vologda Theatre for Children and Youth, Vologda Oblast Puppet Theatre "Teremok", Cherepovets Chamber Theatre, and Vologda Chamber Drama Theatre perform on the stage of the Vologda Kremlin within the framework of the festival.
"The Voices of History" attracts the most skilful actors and repertory theatres from Moscow, St.Petersburg, Novgorod, Pskov, Vladimir, Arkhangelsk, Samara and other Russian cities. Theatres from Greece, Italy, Ukraine, Slovakia, Germany, Belarus and other countries come to give performances in Vologda. The focus of the festival is on the history of Russia and the world history.
Тhe popularity of the theatrical festival “Voices of History” boosted creation of another project – “Summer in the Kremlin” . The concerts and performances during the festival also take place in the open air in the unique historical-architectural environment of the Vologda Kremlin. The founder of the festival is the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Vologda Oblast.
